GODZERO - BLOOD OF KINGS

To be included in the January 2006 issue of The Underground Sound

Heavy vibe for yer mornin' brew, regardless if your preference is coffee or whiskey. Stonecore for the thinking mind, Godzero groove through 11 numbers of heavy sludge without resorting to the massive downtune, overly plodding beat and glossed over vocals that befall many a lessor band. True, like gods of yore there is blatant sabbath, yet to come from this place you need to drink that water, often. Godzero give us both "Wastin Time", the lead cut on the album, and "Nucleus" (check out the cool video on their website), cut number 2, proving the band can dish original songs, still awesomely heavy, proving without a doubt they can write something similar to viable commercial singles, and not sell themselves short in any way for it.

Carmine on vox & Guitar, Jake on Bass and Joe on Drums is all the info out of the box I got about these guys, but I really suggest cruising on over to http://www.godzero.us for identity verification. Everyone in this band is a hardcore music veteran. Carmine Matteliano is a former member of Biohazard (as well as hardcore fall-of-famers Gutwrench), whose recent work under his guise is arguably their best. His tenure in the doom underworld has included stints with some of that genre's best bands; Sheer Terror, Warzone & Carnivore among them. If you've really been around in the underground, you will remember his bands with perpetual skin-master Joseph (the drummer) Inga, especially Allegiance. For most of the 80's they toiled relentlessly opening for other bands and building a sizeable fan base in the eastern US. Word got around, as it did about Joe and Carmine's other band, doom legends Grim Legion. Petigrees are here.

Legions of pure-core doom metal fans may point to the wide reach of that style of metal's large universe in today's wide-open internet fueled world and say other bands do such-and-such better. Godzero, being seperately members of the building blocks of this style of underground music from way back, probably couldn't care fuckin' less. With Godzero they fly the flag high and provide a degree of music competency on these 11 cuts Blood Of Kings contains, that defines the origins of real Heavy Metal. Check "Outlaw", the closing cut..... that son, is how it's done. For a first album as Godzero, this is killer shit. If this band can manage to tour the US a few times, the nation will bow before them. Contact: http://www.godzero.us
