Psychedelics via india seem thickly hazed into the background while the ride flows like the thick smoke of the Nag Champa alighting the cerebral way.  Nice soundscapes tinged with just enough feedback, dissonance, counterpoint and finesse, as to roll a fine 12 step joint.

All the way, from start until finish rich encounters of ambient entity unfold multi-plot fascinations not reliant upon themes, just a flow.  A few pieces extend to derision almost to the breaking point, but seem to descale the mountain as quick as they went up.

Things like stuck in a barrel are hybrid concoctions owing a big to do to the masters of mind washed past.  Yet just as easily could be one slip adventures to the other side on any given afternoon.

Through it all though, you hear the drone of the call, the lamentations hinted at yet never realized of the temples, the structured failure of the idle grasp. Reality explored, worldly senses on hold, a wonder to behold.

Nothing but pure juice here for the house scene. Slinking bass link pars with a high hat straight pulse over a locked 4 (or is that 16?) kick.  Stabs bring you the augmentation, vocal samples provide a melodic/pseudo psychedelic sensation, and the drop is as sublime as it is heavy.  This is how classic house is done!

Mean Motor Scooter - Mr. Sophistication

Buck shuffles, vigorous sing a longs, slight up tick hard downbeat like texans are known for. Proto punk, a notch above power pop, one down from pure garage; mostly because the vocals and the riffs don't give a damn. Another gem from Dirty Water continuing their domination of international power pop punk as it is. This time blasting an American juice box out of the thick haze of the underground.

4 of the 5 numbers on this EP hit hard, Portals can be forgiven for not making it a complete freak out.  Still for rockin' cool it's top grade. Zombie Cop, Put me Down Like A Dog, they sing to the heart of the streets. Garage door open live band style, like all yer neighbors need to know....

Review: Lucy & The Rats - Got Lucky

Lucy & The Rats - Got Lucky

At times pure retro pop stylings; simple melodic pieces, harmonic vocals sang in key, single string catchy leads and a heavy backbeat.  Works fantastic in a few memorable spots on their new album.  I liked the first one from the band a couple of years ago, yet this new full length brandishes a shimmering feel with just enough power to rock on while tattooing your memory with unforgettable rhythmic melodies when it hits on all cylinders. Songs like Real Thing rock with that 50's/60's early power pop driving feel.  Finding the better bands in this territory is a specialty their label Dirty Water Records excels at.  They find 2-3 gems a year and are building a classic master catalog of english beat, pop punk, punk rock and straight up rock n roll.

In fact, "most" of this record rocks pretty hard, Pinch Myself is another presented with drive and attitude.  There is bit of downtime with a few slow numbers that really can't make it with the rest, but often in the industry we find such music as "singles" for whatever reasons. IMHO something like Not One Tear are primed for that. Or maybe Dark Clouds. Then numbers such as Sorry, or Jelly Baby Baby almost get there, but not quite.  So overall this is a good release, with just a tad of adjustments and intensity up, it really could be happening. Maybe a high 6 or 7 outta 10.
