The Spiritual Bat - Cruel Machine
This is the second release I've gotten from the band. I thought the first a couple of years ago was cool, but Cruel Machine is much improved. From song structures to production, vocals and drive, Cruel Machine comes in a nicer package than it's predecessor. While the darker corners are still there, center stage are the great songs, cool grooves and the unique vocalizations of Rosetta Garrì; displayed in it's many forms on the title cut, which is but one of the many singles quality songs contained on this album. Another is Thunderstorm, which displays the aforementioned conglomeration of vocal feats, from gulped air pseudo punk to soaring gothic angel. The underpinning of all this wonderful throat are the sound paintings of Dario Passamonti; using the right mix of color, dissonance, flow, pattern and volume, his music creates image and visual when partaken. This is a rare feat artistically, done by the better ones, and when coupled with live performance, if the Spiritual Bat can bring across, there will be times not to be forgotten. As we enter into late 2011, this is one of the top five releases I've gotten all year. It's stayin' in rotation indefinitely.
