Review:  Slow Burning Car - Vol. 2, The Scattering

Big powerchords driven by straight ahead rock with time changes and groove injection woven throughout the sound. Slow Burning Car reminds me of the quality new heavy alternative rock that used to come across fairly often on college radio during the good years; an engaging blend of hard rocks, giving props to metal, original, and to some degree challenging. Non-committal blues are an under-pinning, and there is a tense outer rim of minor chords supplying creative stabs n jabs. This works to keep the storyline somewhat fresh, and helps the band by-pass the same 'ol whadda-ya-say game that many will attribute to retro; which really means back when songs mattered. Songs matter to Slow Burning Car, each number on this 12 song cd has an arrangement, once gain not just verse-chorus-verse cookie cutter songwriting. You can put on this CD and do a complete listen all the way through, the variety and paid homage to rock's classic rock godfathers keeps the listener tuning in to reference the inspirations. A time or two the three chord shout outs might seem a little thin, but working bands who either still pay for their studio time or just value their time, know when enough is there and leave off another 12 or 15 overdub tracks.  One thing, this disc is not overkill, no peaked out leveling that causes ear fatigue after 2 songs, it almost sounds analog, which says something about the state of the great digital wall. It also helps there are some really great songs on this album! I find Vol. 2 -The Scattering from Slow Burning Car to be a pleasure to listen through, just enough to probably make me want to hear more on down the road, which bodes good for any band's career.  Contact: http://www.slowburningcar.com, http://www.myspace.com/slowburningcar
