UNDERGROUND A&R REPORT

This is an email sent to the Atlanta Journal Constitution concerning the article written by Stacy Shelton about Global Climate Change in the Sunday, June 11th edition of the newspaper

Greetings,

It is good to see more articles like yours in newspapers these days concerning the damage mankind does to the planet in the rush to riches. While a better awareness is welcomed, it is still baffling that anyone with any sense at all can even begin to believe global warming is not happening at an increased pace. What accepts this attitude, politics? Definitely not concrete science. For even though your sciences are still rather primitive, it only takes an individual's simple senses to feel and understand that yes, you are destroying the planet.

Even if today, at this moment, you stopped pumping the air and waters full of your waste, it would be many centuries before the Earth would recover. While we have pushed for public transportation systems that do not pollute, still, we are either ignored outright or as evidence shows, targeted for prosecution. Well, while some argue it will ruin the economy and "cost" too much to put such systems in place, keep on at your pace, and you will have no planet on which to have an economy, period. Judgement for those who allow, or even force this to happen, will not be pleasant in the least.

So, instead of attempting to let the capitalist markets try and create products they can sell that are "enviromentally friendly" it will take a reversal of current mindset and policy to even slow the destruction of our planet, much less reverse it, and even though the time for such measures has not passed, we do not see anything but half-hearted attempts to do much about the situations. Time is running out, and that is not an opinion, that is a fact.

Still, your articles are a welcomed sign. Now though, instead of talk and comprehension, your people as a nation, and as a species, must do much more to be allowed to continue to enjoy this beautiful creation. The solutions are not so complicated, yet you'll have to move past the bickering point very quickly, in order to survive many more generations.
