Svartsyn - Timeless Reign
Thrashed out beyond recognition, pounding, multi layered blast beats, wide spaces, classic underground metal. Svartsyn grinds out the punishment, adding narratives above the slaughter. This is black metal, death metal, lesson 101. All the elements of the apocalypse are here, and it cooks. Devilish melodies inside this grind, at times it nears redemption. A big blast of intense metal, burning wildly. For the record, nothing Carnal Records out of Sweden has sent me, in well over a decade, has been below excellent. Horns up mofos! The war rages on. The Naughty Spots - The Science Of Art
Fresh, emotive, pop anthems of wanting, needing, and giving. This is a relatively young band, the oldest members being very early 20's, and their whole demeanor reflects teens becoming young adults. It helps the band isn't new, they have five years of practice together which has produced over 4 DIY albums. This helps the band overcome the pigeonhold "emo" genre and shows a spirited experienced pop band rising. Hopefully as their minds and abilities expand, their music modifies as much towards material outside of the relationships manual. I'd like to feel that breakthrough is right around the corner. Unlike - Almost Human
Another female front heavy band with great songs and terrific melodies. The riffs crank and the backbeat is strong. Marianna and Federica are the dual lead vocals in the band, and theya re it's trademark. If you listen real hard you can hear a heavy metal Abba in there. Luckily the band's songs are up the task of rapid transport vehicle, big anthem overtures and jamming multi-time break downs. They get to the point with the soaring choruses and sing-along-with verse. Very rarely do they fail to connect. No Need To Explain has play me written all over it for metal radio. Recommended. Manzana - Nothing As Whole As A Broken Heart
If there is such a thing as complete heavy pop music, Manzana is it. I am not talking the cheap bullshit, I am talking prime cut. The production isn't skimpy and smooth, it's ripping and full. The song structures are just fucking fantastic. Through the slamming rhythm guitars, the vocalizations of the arrangements soar, melody lines singing through the cosmos. The band doesn't do many solos, it pretty much is a straight blast along a hot rail of riff, simple, effective, rock n roll. Songs like "Call" pass the band into the gothic, almost industrial, but that hard rock big beat still is lined like a missile trajectory. Lots of recordings obtain that in the digital age, compression masters of the void, Manzana has that covered, plus alot more in the overall talents of the band, their excellent songwriting, and overall creativity. They branch out a bit as the record goes on, but that overall big riff, big vocal, big bottom vibes kicks through every song on this album. Piritta, remember that name, her finnish mastery of the anglish language is a key element. Album of the year. http://www.manzana.fi
